Poem by Su Bray
“Let’s keep it light!”
Wonderful description
Terrible prescription
What happens when the light
Is just not there?
Society demands positivity
And we answer. But are we free?
With our cookie-cutter smile.
Smile full of cookies
As we choke them down.
Like dogs eating pavlova…
There’s a delicious moment
Of relief: “I’m fitting in,
I’m conforming:
I’m safe”
Who the fuck are you`
To give me the lines,
The shapes, the contours
And the implicit directive
To find a way to fit in?
Did no-one tell you?
I hate cookies.
Or
I don’t eat cookies
